About Me

My name is Jack Leach. I am a professional economist and an amateur historian, with a keen interest in why some countries became rich while others remained poor. I began writing these posts to organize and retain what I learned, but I hope that they will be of some value to other people with an interest in this subject.

“The History of Economic Growth”: the definite article makes me uneasy. These posts are not chronologically, geographically, or topically comprehensive. They are a reflection of my own selective reading in the literature. There are many interesting and important aspects of the subject that I have not addressed; the only claim that I can make for this material is a useful jumping off point.
